Gym Equipment and Home Gym Moving in Jeddah

Home exercise equipment ranges from a heavy treadmill, an exercise bike, an elliptical trainer and a weight bench to racks, dumbbells and iron plates, and multi-station machines that take up a whole corner of a room. They combine extreme weight with mechanical joints and electronic parts, plus sharp edges and handles that scratch walls and doors. Moving them calls for a skill that differs from moving bedroom furniture.

At Three Knights we move gym equipment, home gyms and small fitness studios in Jeddah. This page explains how we prepare, dismantle, wrap and carry the machines, what we ask before the appointment, and how we protect your home, the floors and the lift. If your move covers a whole home, read the apartment moving page as well.

Types of Equipment and What Sets Each Apart

  • Treadmill: long and heavy, with a motor, display and wires. Most models fold, but folding does not reduce the weight much.
  • Exercise bike and elliptical: a little lighter, with wheels, pedals and seats that come off to ease moving.
  • Weight benches and racks: heavy metal frames with joints that need their bolts kept, and leather pads that scratch easily.
  • Weight plates and dumbbells: the heaviest items for their volume, needing distribution across small boxes.
  • Multi-station home gyms: very large, with cables, pulleys and built-in weights.
  • Yoga and light exercise equipment: lighter and easier, but with many small parts that need gathering in boxes.

We ask for a photo of each machine, the model name and weight if it is printed, and its dimensions folded and unfolded. With this we decide on equipment, crew size and how we get it in and out of the home.

Why Gym Equipment Gets Damaged in Moves

From our experience the same causes repeat: carrying a treadmill by the display or the belt instead of the frame, dragging heavy machines on the floor, leaving folded machines unsecured so they open and hurt the carrier, mixing weight plates into a weak carton that bursts when lifted, and exposing electronics to moisture. Walls and floors are damaged too when not protected, since concentrated weight on a small wheel can crack tiles or cause fractures.

Jeddah Climate and Your Machines

In Jeddah, humidity causes rust on poorly coated iron parts and affects displays and electronic boards. We suggest cleaning and drying the machine before wrapping, wiping metal parts with a dry cloth, and never wrapping it damp. On dusty days we add a cover over electronic panels. After arrival it helps to leave the machine for an hour before plugging in and switching on, especially after a humid day.

Before the Move: What You Do

  1. Photograph each machine: front and side, with a picture of its display and control panel.
  2. Record model, weight and dimensions: from the manual or the label.
  3. Unplug and detach the cable: coil the cord and fix it to the machine.
  4. Remove seats and pedals that come off: or leave it to us with the bolts.
  5. Empty the weight stack where possible: if plates are removable.
  6. Plan the route: and measure doors, corridors and the lift.

Dismantling and Wrapping Steps

We begin by removing outer parts: seats, handles, pedals and detachable arms, and put the bolts in numbered bags attached to the machine. Then we wrap the frame in a soft cover, add an extra layer over the display and panel, and secure moving parts so they cannot move on the road. Weight plates are spread across small, sturdy boxes so no box exceeds what can be carried safely. You can read our general method on the packing and wrapping page.

Treadmills: Special Details

A treadmill is one of the hardest machines to move because it combines length, weight, a motor, a belt and a display. We fold the deck if the model allows it and engage the safety lock, disconnect the power cord, wrap the belt and display, and carry it by the frame on a dolly with two or more people. If it does not fold we measure doors and corridors precisely, because it may be impossible to pass it without partial dismantling. Marble floors on upper storeys also need good protection while the machine is rolled.

Weight Plates and Dumbbells

A common mistake is placing many iron plates into one carton. The cardboard bursts when lifted, and the plates drop on feet or on the floor. We spread the iron across small sturdy boxes or resistant bags, carry each box with two people if needed, and protect floors on the way. In the truck we place them at the bottom of the load against a fixed wall and make sure they cannot move. If your gym has tonnes of plates, we plan the route and several trips.

Walls, Floors and Lifts

Exercise equipment is a danger to floors and walls. We lay thick boards under dollies, wrap sharp corners, and protect door frames and the lift floor. We respect the lift’s maximum load, and if the weight is over we split it into trips. If the lift is not suitable we consider the stairs or outside lifting, explained on our winch and hydraulic lift page.

A Home Gym in a Small Room: How Do We Get It Out and In?

Many home gyms are assembled inside a small room or annex, and the owner then finds the machine will not pass the door unless it is taken apart. That is natural, since some machines are built inside the room. So we need to know how it was brought in, and whether it was dismantled and assembled on site. If so, we plan a major dismantling and precise numbering, and photograph the stages so we can reassemble in reverse order. This takes longer than an ordinary move, so book a comfortable slot and avoid combining it with other tasks on the same day if possible.

Lifting Safety and Backs

Back injuries are common when heavy fitness equipment is carried the wrong way, which is a sad irony for someone who bought a gym to improve their health. So we are firm on lifting rules: bend the knees, not the back, share the load between more than one person, use dollies and straps instead of muscle, and stop if anyone feels pain or imbalance. If you plan to help us carry, follow the crew’s instructions and do not try to lift heavy plates alone. The real workout starts after arrival, not during the move.

Electronics, Displays and Linked Accessories

Many modern machines have displays, speakers, charging ports and Bluetooth, and some link to phone apps. These parts are sensitive to knocks and moisture. We photograph the display and control panel before dismantling, wrap them in a soft layer and a small box if possible, and keep the charger and control unit with the machine. After reassembly test the machine with a light load and check the settings, since some machines revert to factory settings after power is cut. Keep the manual somewhere easy to find.

The Small Accessories That Get Lost

Every home gym has small things that get lost: spanners, weight collars, resistance bands, cable ropes and safety pins. Collect them in one box labelled “gym accessories” and keep it with your personal things or somewhere clear in the truck. These items are small, but without them the machine may not work until you buy a replacement.

Fitness Studios and Small Clubs

Some customers run a small fitness club or exercise studio in Jeddah and want to move their equipment to a new place. Here the numbers multiply and coordination matters: inventory of machines, numbering, deciding the order of moving so that work stops as little as possible, and preparing the new space with a suitable floor. We suggest you send a list and photos of each machine, choose a time outside busy hours, and move in batches if needed. For details on business moves see office and corporate moving.

What Affects the Cost

Cost depends on the number of machines, their weight and size, dismantling and assembly, the floor and lift, the need for a winch or special equipment, the distance, and whether the job is part of a full move or on its own. Send photos and a list of the machines on WhatsApp and we will outline what is needed. For general pricing see furniture moving prices in Jeddah.

Common Mistakes

  • Carrying a treadmill by its display or belt.
  • Putting many plates into a weak carton.
  • Dragging machines over marble without protection.
  • Leaving moving parts unsecured.
  • Forgetting to number bolts and photograph connections.
  • Switching a machine on right after it arrives from humid weather.

After Arrival: Setting Up

Choose a strong, level floor away from damp and close to a suitable socket for a treadmill. Put a rubber mat under heavy machines to protect the floor and reduce vibration. Reassemble the parts according to numbering and photos, tighten bolts firmly and test the machine first with a light load. If the machine is complex, consult the manufacturer’s manual or a specialist technician.

Floor Care in the New Place

Heavy machines need a level, strong floor. If the machine is on an upper floor make sure the floor can take the concentrated load, especially for large machines and many plates. Use rubber mats or boards under machines to spread weight and reduce vibration and noise for neighbours below. If the home is new, take care that the machines do not scratch the floor in its first days.

Between Districts and Out of Jeddah

Within Jeddah, for example from Al-Safa to Al-Rawdah or Al-Hamdaniyah to Obhur, the biggest obstacle is often floors and lifts, not distance. For another city we increase strapping and floor protection inside the truck and carry heavy plates at the bottom of the load. Find long-route options at moving from Jeddah to Madinah.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you move heavy treadmills?

Yes. A treadmill is heavy and long, and its electrical parts can be sensitive, so we fold what can be folded, secure the belt, disconnect the cables and carry it on a dolly with a suitable crew. We ask about the model, weight and floor.

Do you dismantle and reassemble assembled exercise machines?

We take apart machines that can be dismantled such as benches, racks and some cable machines, number the parts and keep the bolts, then reassemble. Precise assembly of some advanced machines may need the manufacturer’s technician.

How do you move weight plates and iron?

Weights are very heavy for their size. We divide them into small sturdy boxes, never put many in one carton, protect the floors and carry them with suitable equipment.

Do I need a winch for gym equipment?

It depends on the floor, the lift and the weight and size of the machine. Some large machines do not pass narrow doors, and in that case we may need partial dismantling or lifting from the facade.

Do you move smaller items like an exercise bike?

Yes. They are lighter than large machines, but electronic parts, pedals and seats need protection. We photograph the display and connections before dismantling.

Do you move a multi-station home gym?

Yes, after reviewing photos and dimensions. These machines are large and heavy and include cables, pulleys and built-in weights, and may need major dismantling and a bigger crew.
