Home appliance packing in Jeddah: protecting the machines you depend on
Appliances are the part of a move that people worry about most, and for good reason. A washing machine, refrigerator or flat-screen TV is expensive to replace, heavy to handle and full of parts that do not like knocks, tilting or moisture. This page describes our packing service for home appliances in Jeddah: what we wrap, which materials suit each machine, how the protection is built layer by layer, and what you need to prepare before the crew arrives.
It is a service page, not a how-to for handling a single machine. If you want general moving advice for each appliance, you can read our guide to moving home appliances and electronics safely. Here we focus on the packing itself, which is what separates an appliance that arrives ready to plug in from one that arrives scratched, dented or damaged inside.
What we pack
Our appliance packing covers the machines found in most Jeddah homes and apartments.
- Washing machines, front-loading and top-loading, and washer-dryers.
- Refrigerators and freezers, from compact units to large double-door models.
- Cookers, ovens and built-in hobs once they have been disconnected.
- Dishwashers.
- Televisions and monitors of all sizes.
- Microwaves, air fryers, coffee machines, toasters, blenders and other kitchen appliances.
- Split air-conditioner indoor and outdoor units, after a qualified technician has disconnected them.
- Water dispensers, vacuum cleaners, fans and small heaters.
Appliance packing can be booked on its own or together with a full move. If your furniture also needs wrapping, our furniture wrapping service and the wider packing services in Jeddah can be combined into one visit.
Why appliances need their own packing method
Furniture is mostly wood, fabric and metal. Appliances are mechanical and electrical, and each type has its own weak points.
- Refrigerators have compressors and pipework that should stay upright, and doors that swing open in transit.
- Washing machines have drums and suspension that move freely unless they are secured.
- TV screens are thin, flat and easily cracked by pressure on the face.
- Ovens and cookers have glass doors and loose racks that scratch the enamel.
- Air-conditioner units have delicate fins and pipe connections that bend easily.
A generic blanket thrown over each machine does not address any of these. That is why we pick the wrap, the padding and the securing method for each appliance separately.
Packing materials, matched to the machine
We use a small set of materials in different combinations. Understanding them helps you see what you are paying for.
| Appliance | Main protection | Securing |
|---|---|---|
| Washing machine | Foam or cardboard on corners and front, stretch film around the body | Drum bolts or transit locks if available, hoses coiled and taped inside |
| Refrigerator or freezer | Moving blanket or thick foam on sides, corner guards, film over the doors | Doors taped closed, shelves removed or fixed, kept upright in the truck |
| Cooker or oven | Cardboard on the glass, foam on edges, film around the body | Racks and trays removed and wrapped separately, door taped |
| TV or monitor | Original box if available, otherwise foam sheets on both faces and a rigid frame | Carried upright, never flat, wedged against a solid surface |
| Microwave and small appliances | Bubble wrap and a snug carton | Turntable and accessories wrapped separately, cable taped |
| Split AC units | Foam on fins, wrap on casing, caps on open pipe ends | Units kept upright and strapped separately from heavy furniture |
Stretch film does not stick to the surface of the appliance in a way that damages it, and it keeps doors, cables and accessories from moving. Moving blankets and foam add the cushioning. Rigid corner boards protect the edges and reduce dents.
Jeddah humidity and what it does to packing
Jeddah is a humid city for much of the year, and humidity affects appliances in a way many people forget.
- Moisture trapped inside a washing machine drum or a refrigerator cabinet can create odour, mould or rust during storage or transit. We recommend drying and ventilating them well before packing.
- Cardboard absorbs moisture and softens, so old cartons that have been stored on a balcony or in a store room are not reliable for heavy items.
- Plastic film can trap moisture on the surface of appliances, so we avoid leaving machines wrapped in a closed truck for long periods in the sun.
- If appliances are going into storage, a dry, ventilated space matters. See our furniture storage in Jeddah page for storage details.
- Salt in the coastal air can corrode exposed metal, so we wipe and dry machines before wrapping them.
In the hottest months we also avoid leaving freshly wrapped machines in direct sunlight while the rest of the load is being prepared.
Preparing each appliance before the crew arrives
Preparation by the household is as important as packing. A quick checklist for the most common machines follows.
Refrigerator and freezer
- Empty the contents and move food to coolers.
- Switch off the power and let it defrost completely. Place towels at the base because water will come out.
- Wipe the inside and leave the doors open for a few hours until it is completely dry.
- Remove or secure loose shelves and drawers.
Washing machine
- Disconnect the hoses and drain remaining water from them and from the pump filter.
- Remove any items left in the drum or the detergent drawer.
- Fit the transit bolts if you still have them. If not, tell us and we will secure the drum with padding.
TV and screens
- Remove the stand and keep the screws in a small bag taped to the TV or stand.
- Photograph the cable connections at the back before you unplug them.
- Keep the remote control and cables together in a labelled bag.
Oven, cooker and small kitchen appliances
- Let them cool completely.
- Remove racks, trays and glass plates.
- Empty crumb trays and water tanks.
Split air-conditioners
Disconnecting and reinstalling a split AC involves refrigerant, electrical work and pipework, and should be done by a qualified air-conditioning technician. Arrange this with your technician before our crew arrives, and we will pack the indoor and outdoor units, remote controls and brackets once they are detached.
The packing process on the day
- Check-in. The crew leader walks through the home and confirms which appliances are included and how each one is prepared.
- Condition check. We note existing scratches or dents so there is a clear record before wrapping.
- Cleaning and drying. Surfaces are wiped and moisture is checked so the wrap does not trap damp.
- Securing. Doors, hoses, cables, trays, glass plates and drums are fixed in place.
- Wrapping. Padding and film go on in layers, suited to the machine.
- Labelling. Each appliance is marked with its room and handling notes such as keep upright or fragile.
- Loading. Appliances are carried to the truck in the right order and strapped separately from furniture.
You are welcome to stay and watch the process, and to ask questions about any machine you are worried about.
Upright rules during transport
How an appliance sits in the truck matters as much as how it is wrapped.
- Refrigerators and freezers travel upright. Laying them down can move oil in the compressor, so if it ever must be tilted, they should stand for a while before being switched on.
- Washing machines travel upright with the drum secured.
- TVs and monitors travel standing on their long edge, not flat, with padding on both faces.
- Cookers and dishwashers travel upright, with doors taped and nothing resting on the glass.
- Split AC units are kept upright and supported so that pipes and fins are not crushed.
Heavy appliances are loaded near the front and on the floor of the truck, while light ones are placed on top. Nothing is placed on top of a TV.
Specific problems we help you avoid
- Dented side panels from loose straps or hard corners.
- Cracked screens from pressure on the face or from boxes stacked on top.
- Broken glass doors on ovens and refrigerators.
- Bent AC fins and crushed pipe ends.
- Water damage from hoses not drained before wrapping.
- Lost screws and accessories, which are bagged and labelled.
We cannot promise that no appliance will ever have a problem, because some faults exist before the move or appear on first start. What we do commit to is careful packing, clear records and honest communication if something is noticed on the day.
Unpacking and reconnecting
After the move, give each machine time to settle. Remove packaging carefully, keep the film and foam until you have tested the appliance, and photograph any damage straight away. Let a refrigerator stand upright for a while before plugging it in, as the manufacturer suggests. For washing machines, remove the transit bolts and check hoses before running a first cycle. If furniture also needs reassembling, ask about our dismantling and assembly service.
How price is decided
We do not publish a fixed figure because every home is different. The factors that shape a quote are:
- The number and size of appliances.
- Whether you have the original cartons or we need to supply packing.
- The level of protection you want, from basic wrap to full cushioned crating.
- Floor level, lift access and parking.
- Whether the packing is for a short move across town, a long intercity trip or storage.
Send us a list or photos of your appliances on WhatsApp and we will reply with a written quote. For a general overview of how moving prices are worked out, see our page on furniture moving prices in Jeddah.
Frequently asked questions
Do you pack home appliances in Jeddah?
Yes. We pack washing machines, refrigerators, ovens, TVs, microwaves and other home appliances, either as a separate service or as part of a full move.
Can you pack a refrigerator without the original box?
Yes. We use thick padding, corner guards and stretch film, tape the doors closed and keep the refrigerator upright during transport.
Do you remove and reinstall split air-conditioners?
Disconnecting and reinstalling split units should be done by a qualified AC technician. We pack the indoor and outdoor units once they are detached.
How should I prepare my washing machine?
Disconnect and drain the hoses, empty the drum, dry it, and fit the transit bolts if you have them. If not, we secure the drum with padding.
How long before the move should I defrost my fridge?
Switch it off and begin defrosting the day before, then dry it thoroughly, because moisture left inside can cause odour and rust.
Is humidity a problem for appliances in Jeddah?
It can be, because trapped moisture causes odour, mould and corrosion. We dry the machines first and avoid sealing damp surfaces under film.
Can I book appliance packing only, without moving furniture?
Yes. Appliance packing can be booked on its own, for example before storage or before another company transports the load.
How do I get a quote?
Send a list or photos of your appliances and your building details on WhatsApp or by phone, and we will send a written quote.
